Union Street Community Partner : Habitat for Humanity Bay-Waveland Union Street is an innovative, 102 unit mixed income neighborhood on a 28 acre site in the heart of Bay St. Louis, MS. It is a walkable neighborhood with tree-lined streets and a linear park that runs the entire length of the neighborhood. The park acts as a boulevard and is part of a stormwater management and mitigation zone. On-site mitigation within building lots along with strategically placed bio-swales along street edges also help to naturally filter stormwater before it leaves the site. A native plant palette is used throughout the neighborhood which requires less maintenance and creates a natural habitat for wildlife. The neighborhood offers a diversity of housing types for a diversity of residents. All single-family homes and duplexes have front porches and are located close to the street to create a strong neighborhood feel. The houses are built with ‘green’ materials and energy saving appliances. Due to Union Street's socially, economically and ecologically minded design the Renaissance Builder & Developer Guild awarded Union Street with Renaissance Endorsement. Union Street is a Habitat for Humanity Bay-Waveland Area, Inc development that has been created by a team of local expertise: Hancock Housing Resource Center, Gulf Coast Community Design Studio, James Chiniche Engineering, Abundant Home Builders, DeNovo Mississippi Homes and Lagniappe Presbyterian Church. |
