BUILDING / EAST BILOXI / A HOUSE FOR MARVIN

This is Marvin.
Marvin is a young, single father whose existing house, post-Katrina, had to be torn down due to extensive damage. He requested a two-bedroom house with a screened porch and a bathroom easily accessible to both himself and his daughter.  GCCDS designed a house with a clerestory on the North side of the house, to allow more light and ventilation, and greater ceiling height in the living area. The entire space feels much larger and more open than standard affordable housing designs.

After demolition, the site was essentially a large puddle, meaning the foundation had to be modified during construction. (Prior to the storm, Marvin had a pet turtle living under his house, so this is an ongoing site-drainage problem.) Hope Force broke ground mid-March, and BFS Relief assisted on finishing work.
