BUILDING / EAST BILOXI / A HOUSE FOR JUANITA AND WILLIS

This is Juanita and Willis.
Juanita and Willis lived with their two young sons in the FEMA trailer next to their gutted post-Katrina house, which was subsequently demolished to make way for their new house. Their lot is much wider than most standard Biloxi lots, allowing a deviation from the standard Biloxi shotgun.

The square-shaped plan includes three bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus a spare room where Juanita can do paperwork and Willis can use his exercise equipment. The house is ADA accessible and features a screened porch. The main living space is open, with no dividing walls as per Juanita’s request for flexibility.

The house was dedicated in March of 2008, and was constructed by Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia, and the Joining Hands network of Hanover, PA.
